Build Confidence on Two Wheels — Fun After-School Cycling for Kids in Cape Town

Hi, I’m Coach Eugene Elliott, a qualified cycling coach based in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town — and my mission is simple: to get more kids on bikes.

Since 2018, I’ve been helping young riders build confidence, skills, and a lifelong love for cycling. I currently coach at Wynberg Boys’ High School and Reddam Constantia, and run after-school cycling sessions open to all primary school kids in the area.

Cycling has so much to offer — from the excitement of racing at school events, to the sense of freedom on our local trail outrides, to the personal growth that comes with mastering new skills each week. Through fun, safe, and structured coaching, I aim to help every child experience everything cycling has to offer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does my child need to join a session?

All riders need a safe, working bike that fits them, sports-appropriate clothes and a helmet. Gloves, water bottles, and any other protective gear are recommended but not compulsory. If you’re unsure whether your child’s bike is suitable, I’m happy to check it before their first session.

What happens if it rains or the weather is bad?

Safety always comes first. If the trails are too wet or unsafe, the session will be Cancelled. Light drizzle won’t stop us — it’s all part of the adventure! Keep an eye on the WhatsApp group for updates on this.

How can my child move into the Intermediate or Advanced MTB groups?

Progression happens naturally as riders gain confidence and control. To join the Intermediate or Advanced mountain biking groups, your child will first need to be assessed by their coach during regular sessions. I look at key skills such as braking control, cornering technique, trail awareness, and overall confidence on the bike.
Once they’re ready, they’ll be invited to move up so they can continue learning safely with riders at a similar level. This approach ensures every child stays challenged, confident, and supported — whether they’re mastering new trails or preparing for local races in Cape Town.

How do I book a spot?

You can book directly through this website using the online booking form. Select your child’s group and session time, and you’ll receive confirmation and payment details. Spots are limited to ensure a low coach-to-rider ratio.

My child is completely new to mountain biking — is that okay?

Absolutely! As long as your child can ride a bike without training wheels, they can join one of our beginner mountain biking groups. These sessions focus on balance, braking, and control, helping young riders build confidence and enjoy the trails safely.
If your child is still learning to pedal independently, I also offer 1-on-1 “Learn to Ride” sessions — a gentle and fun introduction to cycling that helps them master the basics before joining a group.
